Using Gravity
To edit photos in FORGE, use Gravity, a simple-to-use tool, enabling editors to change multiple image formats at once.
Using AI software, the Gravity tool focuses on a particular part of a photo, editing the photo accordingly, based on focus. This is useful if you have a photo of two players next to each other, and you want to focus on one player.
- To enter the Gravity Tool, select the ADJUST GRAVITY button in Photo Details.
- Editors can use the Gravity Tool by drawing a box around the key part of the photo, then selecting APPLY to confirm selection.
Updating photo details
Once you’ve adjusted the gravity, update the photo details:
- Title: The photo name — this is important for photo metadata and appears on the front-end of your product if you choose to display captions under photos.
- List Availability: Decide whether to make a photo Public or Unlisted, meaning either available or not available in automatically generated lists. See List Availability for more information.
- Authorization Group: Control which editors can access photos with the Authorization Group feature.
- Additional photo metadata: Further photo metadata that describes and provides information about the rights and administration of a photo. This information is purely for metadata purposes and doesn't appear on the front-end.
Changing the image
Changing the photo's image doesn't impact the photo editorial workflow. A Published photo remains Published after replacing the current image with another one.
Note: Once the new image replaces the old one, this change immediately applies to the photo. Yet, the CDN cache might preserve the old image. Ask your technical support to purge the CDN cache to make sure the front-end gets the new image.
- In the photo detail page, select REPLACE IMAGE and chose the new image.
- Select SHOW METADATA.
- Verify that metadata corresponds to the uploaded image:
Overriding photo details in a story
Modify the information related to a photo in a FORGE story.
To do this:
- Select the cog next to a story part.
- A photo within a story can need a different title and follow a different copyright than the photo itself. Complete the Title and Copyright sections accordingly.
Tagging photos
Tags allow to define the photos taxonomy, which has a double function:
- In the FORGE Back Office, editors search photos by tags and select them within editorial selections. For more information, read the Create and manage editorial selections and Create and manage localized editorial selections articles.
- In the Page Builder, producers select photos to render within specific pages through tags. For more information, read the paragraph Modules within the Pages article.
Editors can assign tags in the Tags section.
