What are tags?
Tags are metadata that editorial teams can assign to FORGE entities. Tags link entities to the content taxonomy. An entity can have as many tags as required.
The benefits of adding tags:
- Links content to the presentation through modules, allowing content and tag configuration — see The page for more information.
- Allows grouping many entitles into an editorial selection — see Editorial lists and featured content for more information.
- Helps to organize stories. For example, tagging Jim Mij to a story makes it much easier to find that particular story. See Searching entities for more information.
Internal versus external tags
Editorial teams can both create tags in the FORGE Back Office and also import tags from an external source. See External tags for further information.
What is a context?
A context is a unique group the entities belong to. For example, a story has a 'breaking news' context, which is interpreted by the front-end implementation to display the story in the area that's dedicated to breaking news information.
Adding properties to a story
When editing a story, there are various sections to consider.
- Relations: The Relations tab allows you to choose which stories and videos are related to the story you're creating. These related stories and videos often appear at the bottom of a story's page — depending on the design of a product.
- Promote: Editors can push a story straight to an editorial selection through using the Promote feature.
- SEO: The SEO tab gives editors recommendations to improve the SEO rating of the story. This is a great feature to use to check your story just before you publish it.
- Analytics: Editors can track a story's analytics if a Google Analytics account is synced to FORGE.
- Sharing: Editors can share a story to increase its visibility — see Social sharing for more information.
- History: Editors can track changes made to a story — see Compare versions of a story and use the rollback feature for more information.
- Thumbnail: In FORGE the first photo added to a story becomes the Thumbnail. If there's no photo in your story, you must manually upload or select one. Edit your Thumbnail by clicking the Pick a Thumbnail icon — see Add thumbnails to a story for more information.
- Slug: Editors and producers can change unpublished story slugs. Slugs can be up to 500 characters long.
- List availability: In FORGE, a story can either be Public or Unlisted, meaning whether it can be or can't be an item within an automatically generated list of entities. See List Availability for more information.
- Authorization Group: Which authorization group the editors need to have to see and edit the story. See Permissions for more information.
- Author: Editors can manually change the author's name under the properties section. This step is optional — if left blank, FORGE automatically fills in this section with the editor's FORGE profile name.
- Hide from website search: Editors can decide whether to stop a story from appearing in a website search.
