Where to find the External data section
Add External data to integrate different types of data into your blog. For example, add commentary from a reporter, or a set of sponsors whose product you'd like to promote. To find the External data section, first select the hamburger icon at the top of the left menu. Then select the External data option.
What are no-code post parts?
Opening the External data section displays information in three areas:
- No-code post parts: Parts of a Live Blog post that are configured manually and can be changed. No-code post parts have certain parameters, but administrators can set them up in different ways. For instance, the administrator of a football club can change the commentary to fit their sport better. They can add red and yellow cards, and goal icons. This is different from a tennis tournament, which would use ace and set icons instead.
- External post parts: Parts of a live blog post that are configured automatically and can't be changed. For example, the oEmbed part that allows editors to share social media posts in blogs, is an external post part.
- Datasources: A list of the different data sources that are linked to a LIVE BLOGGING account. For example, this is where you link your FORGE content management system (CMS), and all the content in it, to feed your LIVE BLOGGING account.
- Tag providers: Where developers can set up your tags with external data sources.
Adding a new no-code post part
To add a new no-code post part, select the CREATE NO-CODE POST PART button in the top-right corner of the page. Create either Commentary, Card, or Custom types:
- Commentary: Create match commentary-style posts. These are great for big moments of an event with added icons, text, and further detailed information. For example, the timing of a goal - all in one post.
- Card: Create promotional cards, which can include a message, an image, and a call to action with a URL link. This feature is good to use when you're looking to promote something a sponsor is selling (like a pair of Football boots) in your blog.
- Custom: A combination of commentary and card types, but with more freedom. Here, administrators can create post parts completely from scratch using some pre-determined rules (like whether to choose text, numbers, or media).

Creating a new no-code card post part
Complete the following sections to create a no-code card post part.
- Add a title: Adding a title automatically updates the Id section.
- Choose an icon: Choose a preferred icon by visiting Material icons and selecting the proper icon. For example, the icon of a label is called Sell, and as the icon is only one word, add with a capital letter. If the icon was two words, for example, SoccerBall, you need to make the icon phrase lower case and add an underscore, making sports_soccer.
- Select image position: This decides which section of your card the image is added to.
- Toggle the button option: This determines whether your card includes a CTA with a URL link.
Creating a new no-code custom post part
Complete the following sections to create a no-code custom post part.
- Add a title: Adding a title automatically updates the Id section.
- Choose an icon: Choose a preferred icon by visiting Material icons and selecting the icon they would like to use. For example, the icon of a smiley face emoji is called InsertEmoticon; to add this as an icon, make the icon phrase lowercase and add an underscore, making insert_emoticon.
- Select a name for your field: This is the name of your chosen field, and you should use it to categorize what your chosen field is. Adding a name automatically updates the Id section.
- Select a type for your field: This determines the role this field plays in the Custom no-code post part. For example, choosing the number type, means an editor can add a number — for example, the minute in which a goal is scored — to a card.
- Add another field: With custom cards, add as many fields as you like to a card — we'd suggest not over-doing it with this feature!
