Editing SEO page metadata
When creating a page, review the SEO page metadata: this is the core information that contributes to your website's SEO score.
Metadata is in two places in the FORGE Page Builder:
- In the root folder. Changes to the root folder update the metadata for every page on your website.
- On every page and folder. Producers can update metadata on a folder level or page level. E.g., a producer can edit the metadata for a website folder, which updates the metadata for all pages in that folder. But a producer can also update the metadata for a single page within the website folder.
Update your web page's SEO metadata on a page or folder level by opening the Main Details tab at the top of each page or folder and updating the following:
- Meta description: Editing this at page level overrides the meta description listed in the root folder for just that page.
- Open Graph image: Editing this at page level overrides the Open Graph image listed in the root folder for just that page.
- Meta title: Editing this at page level overrides the meta title listed in the root folder for just that page.
Adding an Open Graph image
Add an Open Graph image within the Main Details tab of a page or folder. This is important, as whenever a page is shared on social media, or appears in a Google search result, the page automatically uses whatever the Open Graph image is.
To update this image, take four steps:
- Upload your chosen image into the Graphic Asset Dashboard.
- Open the Main Details tab of your chosen page or folder, then open Image section.
- Take the image URL from the Graphic Asset Dashboard and then copy and paste it into the Image section, e.g., https://alpha/logo.jpg
- Select Publish when you're happy with your changes. Like all Main Details fields, if you're changing what's in the root folder, this updates every Open Graph image across your product. But, still manually update the Open Graph image on a page or folder level.
How to translate page metadata
Producers can also translate page metadata. To do this, take the following four steps:
- Open the Main Details tab of your chosen page or folder, then go to the relevant areas in the SEO section.
- Select the Add Language button next to the metadata field you'd like to translate.
- Choose the language codes of the languages you'd like to include — for example, fr-FR is French. Also add a translation of the metadata value you'd like to change (either text for a meta title/meta description, or an image path for an Open Graph image).
- Save your changes and then re-publish the page.
